Drinking water

Drinking water is surely one of the most thoroughly tested food products. It is, after all, of life importance and consumed in large quantities every day. The water that watercompanies send into their pipelines is absolutely clean. But what about the quality when it emerges at the end of the line? Is the water still safe when it runs out of our taps?

Three investigative journalists, from Belgium, The Netherlands and Denmark, 'go with the flow', and discover a dangerous pollution that is mysteriously overlooked by the authorities.

At the moment the European Commission puts an effort in harmonizing the water testing methods in the EU. But there is no word written so far about the pollution that silently but continiously threatens the human health and procreation. It’s about time, the journalists conclude, supported by renown scientists, that Brussels takes action against so called ‘forgotten chemicals’ in drinking water.

The investigative team consists of Kaare Gotfredsen , Marleen Teugels and Luuk Sengers. Publication of their articles about the drinking water pollution is expected in august 2005 in Belgium in Knack Magazine, in The Netherlands in de Volkskrant and in Denmark in Fyens Stiftstidene. It is probably the first pan-European investigation that is published simultaneously in three different EU-countries.

Further details about the project are soon to come.
